Jorie Johnson's Fine Art Felt Experimentation Workshop, Day 1 of 3
3h 28m
This workshop is an opportunity to experience a variety of approaches to experimental felt surface-design expression: shibori resist-dyeing techniques, paste-resist applications, direct drawing with sumi ink, pigments, and persimmon tannin on felt. Consider using inlay materials like washi paper, ramie, silk or gauze, silk hankies, skeletal leaves, woolen scraps, and other auxiliary materials. Try new approaches while working with the wool base and felt-making strategies.
Jorie Johnson, wool and felt specialist, artist, and researcher based in Kyoto, Japan has been on the research team for the ancient Japanese Imperial felt rugs that are colorful, intricately patterned, and housed in the Shosoin Repository in Nara, Japan.
